About Gail Stewart

Gail Stewart is an artist by birth and choice. She is the daughter of the renowned potter and painter David Stewart. Both Gail and her father were influenced by the Bauhaus movement, as her father was a student and then longtime assistant to Marguerite Wildenhain, a master potter who had extensive training at the famous Bauhaus School in Germany.

Gail attended Marguerite's landmark Pond Farm Pottery in Sonoma County, now a heritage site and part of the California state park system. Pond Farm attracted students from all over the world and it was a transformative experience for Gail.

Gail’s career in pottery and bronze sculptures spans 30+ years and the body of her work resides in private collections like the prestigious Thomas Skinner collection in Pittsburgh, the Sony corporate building in Tokyo and Saint Jude's Medical Center in Fullerton, California.

In the past 20 years, Gail has been an accomplished and full-time painter, trading clay and bronze for color, shape and line. She can't remember a time when she hasn't drawn or painted! When she was five, her work was selected to be in an international show of children's art, which is fitting as there is an honesty about her work– she strives to paint with strength, truth, generosity and love. And she hopes that the viewer will respond in kind.

Nature inspires her as does the garden outside the studio her husband built for her. She knows art is a universal language, she has seen it be profoundly healing and believes that at its very best, art is transformative and divine. She feels the world desperately needs art and the humanity it brings.
